The Church’s Maintenance Coordinator engaged Xpedite Stormwater & Drainage to investigate, design, and implement a complete drainage solution to protect the building and surrounding grounds.
Investigation & Design
Following the site assessment, it was identified that:
- Groundwater and surface runoff from uphill were saturating the yard
- Inadequate subsurface drainage was allowing hydrostatic pressure to build
- Roof water was overloading the tank system
- Downpipe distribution was insufficient, causing gutter surcharge during rain events
A full integrated stormwater and roof drainage system was designed to intercept subsurface water, capture surface runoff, and redistribute roof discharge appropriately.
Scope of Works
Subsurface & Surface Drainage System
- Excavation of swale drain as per supplied design
- Installation of an underground ag-line with a suitable aggregate surround to intercept groundwater
- Installation of 2 x 450 x 450 mm pits with 600 mm lids to capture both surface and subsurface water
- Extension of ag-line from the street kerb through the carpark, connecting into a lower driveway pit to act as a carrier drain
- Installation of a 100 mm PVC discharge line linking all pits into a unified system directing water to the kerb connection
- Backfilling, surface restoration, and full site clean-up with excess spoil removed
Roof Drainage Upgrade
- Disconnection of selected downpipes from tank inlet and diversion to overflow discharge line
- Retention of one controlled downpipe connection to the tank
- Installation of 2 additional downpipes to reduce gutter loading
- All connections completed in accordance with AS/NZS 3500 and BASIX requirements
Outcome
- Eliminated subfloor water ingress
- Reduced yard waterlogging and hydrostatic pressure
- Prevented gutter surcharge and tank overloading
- Delivered a compliant, integrated stormwater management system
